Design It For Us co-chair Zamaan Qureshi issued the following statement in response to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signing HB 3 into law, which would require parental consent and age verification for kids under the age of 16:
“Restricting access to social media and putting the onus on parents to surveil their children’s social media usage does not address the much larger and dangerous problem of the tech industry profiting off of our data and refusing to implement changes that prioritize our safety. We should be holding social media platforms accountable for how their products are designed – to keep us addicted while also leaving us vulnerable to exploitation – and the industry’s repeated failure to protect us.”
