Design It For Us co-chairs Zamaan Qureshi and Arielle Geismar issued the following joint statement after the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) and Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 2.0) out of the Committee:

“Following the 91-3 passage of the Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act in the Senate, today’s committee votes on KOSA and COPPA 2.0 demonstrate broad bicameral and bipartisan support for protecting the online safety and privacy of young people. We’re eager to see the sponsors of KOSA in the House ensure that the bill is reconciled with the strongest text as exists in the Senate version.

“To be clear – there is more work to do to ensure that all young people are protected by the provisions of KOSA, especially by reinstating a clear definition of harms within the duty of care. We’re grateful to Committee Chair McMorris Rogers and the bill’s co-sponsors Reps. Castor, Bilirakis, and Walberg for helping move the best possible version of this bill towards a floor vote, and we call on legislators to immediately address these changes.”

  • Design It For Us protested in the recent Senate Judiciary hearing with the CEOs of Meta, TikTok, X, Snap, and Discord on their failure to protect young people online and co-hosted a rally advocating for immediate action on KOSA.
  • Yesterday, Design It For Us met with several representatives and staff to advocate for the necessity and urgency of advancing the best possible version of KOSA in order to protect all young people online.
