Design It For Us Applauds U.S. Surgeon General’s Call for Social Media Warning Labels

Design It For Us co-chair Zamaan Qureshi issued the following statement on U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy’s call for warning labels on social media to alert users that online platforms can harm children’s mental health:

“We applaud the Surgeon General’s call for warning labels on social media platforms as a first step that would help to ensure that there is awareness of the undue harms that social media can cause. As we have said, the onus should still be on Big Tech companies to protect young people, but we support the implementation of warning labels as a step in the right direction. Dr. Murthy’s call amplifies the voices of youth like our coalition member LOG OFF, takes into account the dozens of young people the Surgeon General has spoken to, and I am glad to see his continued calls for congressional regulation.”
