Design It For Us Applauds Governor Moore Signing of Maryland Kids Code Into Law

Design It For Us Co-Chair Zamaan Qureshi issued the following statement on Governor Wes Moore signing the Maryland Kids Code into law:

“The Maryland Kids Code’s enactment into law gives us hope for a better future – knowing that younger generations growing up on social media have leaders willing to fight for them and for protections to stop its harms. We are thankful for the work of our advocates, Maryland legislators and Governor Wes Moore for standing up to Big Tech and taking this bill to the finish line. We hope this will bring urgency to other states to pass and adopt much needed Kids Code legislation and end Big Tech’s power over our safety and privacy.”

Design It For Us first started as a campaign effort to pass the California Age-Appropriate Design Code in 2022 and has since become a youth-led coalition advocating for safer social media and online platforms for kids, teens, and young adults. Design It For Us advocates met with lawmakers and testified before the Maryland General Assembly to support the unanimous and bipartisan passage of the Maryland Kids Code.
