Statement from Design It For Us on New Meta Whistleblower Revelations

Design It For Us co-chair Zamaan Qureshi released the following statement:

“For years, young people have been sounding the alarm about the harms of Meta because we’ve grown up on these products. These new whistleblower revelations don’t surprise us—they confirm what we’ve lived through. Jason Sattizahn and Cayce Savage bravely demonstrate once again that Meta prioritizes profits over people, putting the safety of its youngest users at risk.

Meta has spent years touting its efficacy in protecting young people online, but all the while, they were deleting evidence and research that confirmed countless instances of harm to young people on their platforms. These allegations are not isolated—they’re part of a well-documented, consistent pattern of negligence and deception from Meta. Time and again, the company has failed to protect young people online, even with clear evidence of harm and resources to act.

We have paid the price for Meta’s failures for far too long. Today’s revelations prove that once again, our safety has been compromised for the sake of corporate profits. Congress must stop letting these companies off the hook, and pass design-based laws that hold them accountable.”
